One of the biggest sports in the entire world, especially in the United States, has always been Basketball! It is a sport that everybody loves, is competitive, fun, and it is a great way for people to stay healthy if they play it. We encourage going out and doing sports, no matter the kind, but we also believe there is importance in sports games online as well. Sometimes, you don’t have anyone to go with to play some ball, or you just enjoy e-sports, simple as that!

A basketball game takes 48 minutes, which are divided into four 12-minute periods, with a short break in between each of them. During the breaks, the teams usually get pointers from their coaches, who talk strategy and tell the team how to play in order to beat the other one. There is a 15-minute halftime break, which is the longest, and it takes place in the middle of the game.

The two basketball teams are made up of five players, some being on the attack, and some on the defense, with there being extra players on the side, which can be used as replacements for the main players. Make sure that the number of players is always even between the teams because otherwise, it would not be fair. There are five main positions each of the five players can take, and we will explain each of them!

The point guard is probably the most important since he is tasked with taking the ball and getting it to the right play all the time so that the offense is successful. One of the most famous point guards is Magic Johnson. The shooting guard is tasked with scoring as many hoops as possible, being the most important part of the attack, while also sometimes having to take back the ball on the defense. Michael Jordan is the world’s most famous player in that position and a basketball icon!

Next up comes the small forward, who is also on the offensive, having to score points, but they are quite versatile as they also handle defense or rebounds. LeBron James has been one of the main figures in that position. The power forward is usually offensive as well, but they are the main players having to deal with rebounds, and sometimes are known for shooting mid-range shots. Kevin Garnett is a notable example of this kind of player.

Finally, we’ve got the center, usually the tallest member of the team, who does both offense and defense in great style and is one of the most important positions because of this. If they can take the ball from the center, they can start an offensive attack, or take back the ball from the opponents. They also sometimes perform long-range shots, and one of the most popular centers in the world is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Depending on where the players take their shots from when they score, they can get two or three points, with the three-pointer being the highest amount, and that is because it is shot from further away of the hoop, while the free throw gives you just one point. That is because you get to shoot without having any defense from the opponent team, and it is usually given to the team that had been fouled in one way or another.

The players use dribbles and tricks to get past the members of the other team, pass the ball from one another, or go on the run after getting a rebound and scoring. Dunks are very popular, because, in these shots, the player jumps really high and gets the ball indirectly from his hand. Other famous shots include the layup, which you do from a short-range, a jump shot, where you jump and shoot the ball forward, the hook shot, which you make by not being directly facing the hoop, or the bank shot when you hit the backboard and then the ball gets into the net.

The game is most popular in the United States, where the teams belong to the league known as the NBA, with some of the most notable teams in it being the L.A. Lakers, the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls, the New York Knicks, or the Golden State Warriors, just to name a few. Basketball has slowly become more and more popular in Europe as well, where some of the most notable teams include CSKA Moscow from Russia, Fenerbahçe from Turkey, Real Madrid from Spain, or Olympiacos from Greece.
