If you choose to co-operate with a second player in the 2P mode, one of you uses the W key, while the other uses the Up arrow, and these keys are used to fly high with the jetpack on the backs of the crewmates, and when you release, you fall to the ground.

You need to do these two motions in order to advance a distance as big as possible while avoiding traps and obstacles, which can be laser beams, missiles, and plenty others. A big distance is good, but you should also try collecting as many coins along the way as you can.
