As the boat goes from one mine factory to another, you aim and shoot your cannon using the mouse, or touch controls, doing so takes down the monsters chasing you, because if they get close and you lose your health bar, you lose the game.

Instead, take them all down, and between levels, use the earned coins to buy upgrades to your cannon, as well as to your boat or avatar, becoming stronger in the process, since each new wave of monsters is stronger than the last.
