Cats and mice have been enemies with one another ever since the dawn of time, just like cats and dogs don’t get along, so, a natural rivalry between the two types of animal can definitely provide a lot of humoristic moments, which is what we believe that the creators of Tom and Jerry bet all their money on after they created the concept of these two characters, which have been around for no less than 80 years as of now. Yes, you’ve read that right, as the first short animated movies first were released in 1940, and they were created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who are the iconic creators behind the many amazing Hanna-Barbera shows still in existence today.
After the release of more than one hundred short films in theaters, seven of which won Academy Awards, the series had only been expanded in the future, with a great deal of animated series airing on television through the years, a theatrical full-length movie, more than 13 direct-to-vide movies, and, in 2020, we will see the release of a movie that is a hybrid between live-action and animation. We’re sure it will make all the fans happy, and bring a new generation of fans to love these characters as well.
Tom, Jerry, and their countless adventures
Tom is a Cat, and Jerry is a Mouse, so the two of them, because they live in the same house, are always running around one after another. Of course, usually, Tom is the one chasing Jerry, and he is doing so in order to prevent him from grabbing any cheese around the house, which is usually Jerry’s goal, as you know that mice love eating cheese. They are always going against one another, and lots of craziness happens in the house thanks to that.
Tom is very intelligent, has a lot of energy, is bigger than Jerry, and he is always determined to catch the mice, but despite all these advantages he has over him, Jerry always wins in the end. Jerry is reckless, small, and very lucky, because he usually ends up using Tom’s ploys against him, and in the history of the show, he has almost never been caught. Even if he does get caught, he usually ends up being rescued in one way or another.
The relationship between the two is a love-hate one, as the two are enemies, but they still care deeply about one another, and oftentimes they have saved each other’s lives. If the situation requests it, they even work together for a common goal, such as when they had to chase a baby that was not being taken proper care of by the babysitter. The two don’t speak, except for a few special occasions, but there are other characters in the show.
Spike is a bulldog who, because he is a dog, hates cats, so it has happened that many times when Jerry was in a pickle and in danger from Tom, Spike came to his rescue. Jerry oftentimes uses this to his advantage and makes it in such a way that Spike has to chase or attack Tom. This is usually when Tyke is involved, with him being the son of Spike. Buth is an alley cat who teams up with Tom on occasion, as he also hates the mouse, and he brings other cats in to help.
There are female characters in this franchise as well, such as Mommy Two Shoes, who is probably the maid or help in the house where the two animals live, as well as Toddles, who is a female cat who has been said to be Tom’s girlfriend. Apparently, she is not his first, as it seems Tom is quite the playboy, and he has had a string of girlfriends before her.
