The year 2013 was a year that will remain in the history of animated films, for sure, as it was the year that saw the release of Frozen, at the time, the latest movie in the Disney franchise, and their latest addition to the series of movies with the Disney Princesses, and which saw the addition to this group of two lovely new princesses, Elsa and Anna, who are also known as the sisters, with the two of them being at the center of the story.
Like with all of the Disney Movies with princesses before it, or almost all of them, at least, this one is also inspired by a fairytale from Hans Christian Andersen, a story called The Snow Queen, which had been released way back in 1844. The story took the test of time, having become more kid-friendly over the years, with the movie having just slightly been inspired by it, as lots of elements from the original story are cast aside for the Disney picture.
The movie was a smash box-office hit, garnering over a billion dollars, and so did its sequel, six years later, when Frozen 2 was released in theaters all over the world at the end of 2019. It was also critically acclaimed, having been considered one of their best, if not the best in their modern era, which also featured movies such as Tangled, Brave, or The Princess and The Frog. Speaking of Tangled, the animation used on the character closely resembles that of that movie, especially for the princesses.
One of the main reasons the movie became so popular and iconic is the movie’s theme song, called Let It Go, which was such a hit that both adults and their children sing it to this day, and there’s no way you’ve not heard the song at least once in your lifetime. The movie was such a big success with children and adults alike, that, by this point, you can find thousands of Frozen Games online to play, with the best of them now being available on GamesZap, where you will always be able to have lots of fun with these Disney characters you love so much.
When she was young, Elsa, one of the two princesses of Arandelle, discovered that she has magical powers that freeze things around her, causing an accident where she hurt her younger sister, Anna. Her parents then went to seek the help of trolls, who saved the younger sister but encouraged that Elsa stays away from the rest of her family, because she is not powerful enough to use her powers, and she can’t handle them at this age.
This is why, years later, after their parents have disappeared on the sea, it comes the day for Elsa to inherit the throne and become the queen of Arandelle. She spends most of her time in her room, separating herself from people, afraid not to hurt them. Still, her younger sister always wants to spend time with her, starting the movie with a song called Want to Build a Snowman, where she invites her sister to do just that, but she ends up making one just by herself.
At the coronation ceremony, which goes without a hitch, Anna falls instantly in love with Hans, a prince of the Southern Isles. He proposes to her right there and then, and when they seek the blessing of Elsa, she refuses it, explaining that you can’t marry someone you just met. When Anna gets angry about all this, she triggers Elsa’s powers, who go unleashed, and they freeze the whole of Arandelle, making it a Frozen kingdom.
Being called a monster by nasty royals, she retreats on a hill, where she lets go of her powers, building herself an Ice Palace guarded by snow golems, and goes there to live in solitude and be by herself, never to bother anyone. In the process of her magic bursting out, she brings to life Olaf, the snowman Anna wanted to build with her, who becomes her first companion. For what? To bring back Elsa, of course!
While on her journey, she meets a new companion, an iceman called Kristoff, whose best friend and companion is a reindeer named Sven. Back at the palace, where Hans was left to handle things by Anna, it is revealed that asking Anna to marry him was a ploy to ultimately end up becoming the king of Arandelle, making his dominion even bigger. When our heroes arrive at the Ice Palace, a confrontation ensues, with Elsa freezing Anna’s heart by mistake.
Only an act of true love can save Anna, which is why they bring her back to Hans to kiss her. His evil plan of getting rid of both sisters is then revealed. The two sisters try to sacrifice for one another, showing the love between them, and it is also revealed that Kristoff is in love with Anna, with the two ending up as a couple at the end of the movie. Elsa unfreezes the kingdom, the villains are cast away and imprisoned, and Olaf is given a coat of magic to allow him to survive the warmer climate.
The movie ends with a vow to never lock the castle gates again, and the two of them will start spending more time together, now that Elsa has more control over her powers, and she is no longer afraid of the world around her.
