Well, because in each level of the game, one or multiple buddies are going to be hanging from a rope, and you have to save them before they die by shooting arrows towards the ropes and cutting them down. To do so you use the mouse, pulling towards the direction you want to shoot the arrow, and the more you pull, the bigger the power of your shot.

Try to focus on collecting the stars as well, since you can get from one to three, and you grab them by shooting towards them and hitting them or making the buddies fall on the stars, simple as that. Remember that the number of arrows you can shoot per level is also limited, so the better your aim, the more chances of success.
