After choosing to play in either the story mode or free play mode, to win you need to do the same thing, which is hit notes according to the charts until the song ends, doing so by pressing the arrow keys at the same time as the identical arrow symbols match above the character on the right.

Hit notes like that, but know that if you miss them too many times in a row and your health bar depletes, you will lose instead and be forced to start again from scratch. Good luck, enjoy!
