The Amazing World of Gumball is the first animated show to have been produced by Cartoon Network Studios Europe, having started airing in 2011, being an instant hit from the first episode, and it continued to be quite popular all over the years, considering that it ran all the way up until 2019 when it even got a special spin-off mini-series called Darwin’s Yearbook, and something tells us that more spin-offs and events in the series will still be around for years to come. The Amazing World of Gumball, Darwin, their family, and friends!

The setting of the show is that of Elmore, a fictional American city in California, and while the city is explored quite a lot because Gumball is in school, Elmore Junior High is one of the main locations we see in the show quite a lot since a lot of adventure takes place in and around his middle school, which he attends together with all his siblings, as well as a cast of other zany characters. The show is not consistent when it comes to animation and style, as it uses all sorts of elements mashed together, giving Elmore a unique feel which is always fresh and fun. The third season in the franchise saw the inclusion of a new element, The Void, a dimension inside of Elmore where we find all the mistakes of the universe, including things from the fictional storyline, as well as real-life events and characters.

Our main personage can be quite naive at times, although he has developed during the seasons and has become better at logical thinking as well as having developed quite a sense of sarcasm. He loves the people around him, but ego is one of his problems, and can be quite jealous at times because of it.

The third Watterson sibling is Anais, who is a rabbit, just like her father, and she is the youngest, being just four years old, but the smartest one of them all, no doubt. Still, she can be quite childish at times, even if she is in a grade at school.

Their mother, Nicole, is the sole earner of the family, and this is mainly by design, as she is a workaholic, which is probably why she can have a bad temper at times and is always stressed. While she is sweet to her family, she can have a tough side as well, such as the fact that she is an expert karate fighter.

Richard, her husband, is known as the laziest man in Elmore, and all he does is sleep around, eat, and play video games. Obviously, that does not make him the best role model, but it was shown in an episode that if he were to hold a job, the universe would implode, which is why he must never work. Oh, and he is easily the dumbest in the family!

The side-characters are just as interesting, such as Carrie, a ghost living in an abandoned mansion, Tobias, who is a human-shaped cloud who is overconfident in everything he does, Banana Joe, who is a moving and talking banana regarded as the class clown, Masami, a cloud who is spoiled and rich, who always wants to have her way, or Bobert, a robot who might be the smartest student in the school but does not understand social life or emotions.
